FFLO’s first undertaking was at The Priory in Blackheath, a 1959 Span housing development and landscape designed by Ivor Cunningham. We prepared a management plan for the gardens. The tired lawns had been shaded out by Cunningham’s mature trees, and the grass was replaced with a native woodland understorey (planted by the residents). Subsequent projects in Blackheath were tree replacements at The Hall estate and restoration of the shared semi-public gardens of Brooklands Park. In each case our aim is to preserve the original planting schemes as far as possible while accommodating present-day needs.
