This project, was designed to complement a new basement extension by Ben Adams Architects. We drew the existing garden down and into view from the new floor. The resulting planted slope is traversed by a slatted corten steel stair, a theatre de verdure for family life. In front of the slope is a brushed concrete terrace, and to either side retaining walls consisting of board-marked and bush-hammered concrete. The garden is south facing, and the shapes of the semi-exotic planting make a shadow play on the walls and floor of the extension. Photos Joe Sanders.
