The brief for this project, a RIBA competition, was to reinvigorate Prescot’s historic marketplace as a community resource and to acknowledge the market’s history as the town’s economic generator. We suggested that the existing buildings should be retained, with a new market roof bridging and partly covering the external marketplace. The roof was to be completed with glass “carpenter’s tiles”. Under the roof the marketplace was to be furnished with play equipment acknowledging its original function as a meeting place of town and country.
