Our Kaleidoscope was one of five entries shortlisted for the London Festival of Architecture river view competition 2019. The Thames imports a natural wildness that is most strongly felt in parts of the city where the river’s margins are dense and urban – a contrast that has been explored by artists such as Monet, Derain, Canaletto, and Turner.

The Kaleidoscope, with its mirrors, collects and multiplies the wild atmosphere of the river: daylight is refracted and reflected from the water; weather (mist, drizzle, fog) is captured; time and tide produce continuous change. From inside the Kaleidoscope one seems to be sitting in the water or in the sky, solItary. From outside, the structure presents a more public and social face, an event in itself.
